RM8.4m for Jalur Gemilang badges to over 5m students - Fadhlina

The government spent RM8.4 million to procure Jalur Gemilang badges for distribution to more than 5.14 million students nationwide, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She said the allocation covers students in schools, matriculation colleges, Form Six colleges, and teacher education institutes, with each receiving two badges free of charge.

“The allocation was channelled to all state education departments and relevant educational institutions in February 2025, based on enrolment figures,” she said in a written response.

It was previously announced that the requirement to wear the Jalur Gemilang badge will begin on April 21.

She was responding to Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN-Kuala Krai), who asked about the cost and suppliers involved, as well as measures to address student safety and uniform damage.

Fadhlina said the procurement process was carried out by state and district education offices, and the respective institutions via the ePerolehan system, either through tender or quotation, depending on the allocation received.

“The state education departments were authorised to conduct procurement by zones to expedite supply and encourage the participation of more qualified suppliers. In total, 91 suppliers were involved in supplying the badges nationwide,” she said.

According to ministry guidelines, the badge should be made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic with a steel plate and an epoxy embossed top, measuring 5cm long and 2cm wide.

She added that wearing the Jalur Gemilang badge is part of the Education Ministry’s efforts to instil patriotism and love for the country among students, in line with the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013–2025.

“The ministry has provided guidelines on wearing the badge to all institutions under its purview. However, parents are given the flexibility to provide additional badges of the same size and suitable material,” Fadhlina said.

She stressed that her ministry will continue to monitor implementation to ensure it remains flexible at all educational levels, while strengthening national pride among the Madani generation.
